    Salutations

I just became an MR2 Mk1 owner for the first time. I've wanted one of these for a long time and now i have one.

I bought this with a horrible knock and found out after I got it home that one of the rod bearings was gone, not just spun but gone. I was hoping I could have spent a few bucks and dropped in a new bearing and be good to go. Oh, well. So I pulled the motor and picked a low miles replacement and stuck it in. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish hooking it up before the snow started to fly. And since I don't have a heated space, it'll just have to wait until it's warm out.

Once I get a chance to enjoy the car I'll start either rebuilding the 4age or I'll start working on an engine swap. I haven't decided if I want to go 3sg(t)e, or 3vzfe. Any advice or suggestions on which one I should go with is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Gyv

    Hello and welcome.

You will see some current threads on what engine to go for. Most people are bias towards what they have in their car.

If anyone has something local for you to jump in and take a spin, i would say that is the best way to see what you like.

    Hello Gyv.

Welcome to the club. A Tim says people will be biased towards what people have as in engine choice but you really can't go wrong between the 3vz and 3sgte when it comes to cost an performance. The 3S is nuts when the turbo kicks in but the concept of (near) immediate torque and easy cruiser-like performance but a lovely v6 sounds and up to iirc 300bhp possible with the supercharger installed is damned tempting.

Tim's right. See if someone can give you a test drive :)

Thanks guys. I'll look up Gouky.

I'm leaning towards the 3sgte for the simplicity and price and aftermarket dodads. But I want the big power a smooth running of a v6. I'm just not sure my skills are enough to do that yet. (I don't have mad skillz, mine are more like mildly upset.)

You're a bit far away, I'm in Fort Wayne, IN but if you do want to make it over to see what you could be in for, you're welcome to it.

I've got a MKII with a 2GR-FE (290 HP to the ground) and in about 2-3 months i'll have a MKI with a 2AR-FE (expecting 200 HP to the ground)

the MKII is very stock looking, i drive it every day when the weather is nice. the MKI is a completely stripped out race car with a roll cage. but i keep a passenger seat around to bolt in for occasions just like this. it's street legal and insured so we can take it for a spin.
